Funerals Films & Photos
I used to be so fearful of death, but over the last few years I felt I could become more comfortable with death and that my being more comfortable would have a positive impact on my children. The only thing in life that is certain, is death. We will all die one day and I know it is only a matter of time before my family is impacted by death. I wanted to be as prepared as possible on how best to navigate this with my children when it arises. In 2022 I did my Death Walker training with Zenith Virago. Afterwards I felt more than just comfortable with death, I actually felt inspired by it.
When I reached out to Halie from Paperbark Death care, she told me 80-90% of the families she works with regret not having the funeral of their loved one documented. I have had the honour of doing a handful of funerals with Halie now and I hope to do many more. I feel like these films are a true gift to the families I make them for. Life is full of so many beautiful moments and growing old and/or dying are a significant part of these beautiful moments.
The day of a funeral can often be filled with so much emotion it becomes a blur and these films can be a great way to look back and process what happened and to see the beauty of the day from a different angle. I find these films can be especially helpful for young children who’ve lost a parent, as a tool to refer back to as they get older and to assist them on their path of grief. These films are also the next step up from a live feed. A live funeral feed is usually just a feed of the person speaking and you don’t see any other details of the day. The films I create are of the entire day, all the beautiful details that people have collaborated to bring together, often in such profound beauty, as well as the speeches.
There are varying options with the length of a funeral film. You can choose to have the highlights put together in a short film, like the one below or you might choose to have the full length with the complete speeches. I am always open to discuss what best suits each family.
